Jul 2021. We were walking coast to coast along Hadrian's Wall during a heatwave in July and passed by Thirlwall Castle mid-morning. We were very glad to rest and rehydrate in the shade of the castle ruins, as there's not a lot of shade on this walk! There's not a lot to see here, but the ruins are very picturesque and we took a few great photos.

Thirlwall Castle is a 12th-century castle on the bank of the River Tipalt, close to the village of Greenhead.
