De Staat's frontman, Torre Florim, recorded a debut album Wait for Evolution in his apartment in 2007 as a graduating project for a music production course.The band's popularity escalated exponentially, subsequently leading to collaborating with Vance Powell.

Enthusiastically quirky alternative rock band De Staat were formed in Nijmegen, the Netherlands in 2006 by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Torre Florim while he was still in high school. Along with Florim, the group consists of guitarist Vedran Mircetic, bassist Jop van Summeren, keyboardist Rocco Bell, and drummer Tim van Delft.
