At 1,808 metres (5,932 ft) in altitude, it is the site of the former pasture Anterne more commonly called "Cottages Anterne". It is surrounded by five private cottages.

The Alfred Wills refuge is open and staffed for the summer from mid-June to mid-September. Booking must be made in advance by contacting the refuge owner. Shelter is offered during the off-season but on a self-catered basis with no heating or cooking facilities.
